I've noticed that I've finally started to get comment spam on a few posts on my website. At the moment it's fairly easy to keep on top of (especially considering it's all coming from the same IP address), but I'm pretty sure that I'll have to come up with a decent automatic solution at some point soon.

Implementing a captcha seems like an obvious next step, but I know that many people are greatly annoyed by them. Writing an Akismet plugin is another option as well.

Regarding blog spam in general, I noticed I was starting to get some trackback spam a few months ago. After adding a quick check to make sure that the trackback page actually contains a link back to this site, the trackback spams have stopped (and real trackbacks can still get through). However, this solution is a prime candidate for DDOS abuse, and it will have to be re-thought before I open source darcness.

Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud. :P
