Regarding Shark-jumping...

As I have mentioned before, I love Battlestar Galactica. But the last few episodes have caused me to ponder the unthinkable: Has Battlestar Galactica jumped the shark?

SPOILER WARNING: If you haven't been keeping up with the current season of Battlestar Galactica, you may want to skip this post.

The first few episodes of this season were spectacular, some of the best in the series. The turning point seemed to be the episode after the rescue of everyone on New Caprica. Then all sorts of weird shit started to happen.

Now I know that nothing is perfect. I'm willing to forgive the occasional internal inconsistency. But enough is enough! Here's a short list of what I'm talking about:

  • The Cylons now want to colonize Earth. This makes no sense. Why not just go back to the other planets of the original 12 colonies, or even back to their original planet?
  • Baltar is now on a Cylon base ship, the inside of which looks very... um... SciFi(like Star Trek TNG, or Stargate SG1). So much for trying to make the series feel "real".
  • In fact, the Cylons seem to make no sense at all. This is really turning me off.
  • A Cylon base ship picks up an object in space, and apparently it has an ancient human contagion on it—the amazing downloadable rodent virus!
  • Hybrid Cylon? What the frak!?!? .... JUMP off a bridge
  • I really, really want to go on the Lee Apollo diet.
  • In case you weren't confused enough, "boomer" is now "Athena". But she is still Sharon.
  • When Galactica finds the Cylon base ship with all the sick cylons on it, they send out the two most unlikely people to go check it out: Apollo (who is now the second-highest ranking officer in the fleet) and "Athena" (who is a cylon). I guess they are expendable. ("Athena" turns out to be conveniently immune to this disease.)
  • When Boomer was first inside of a Cylon base ship (Season 1 finale), it looked a hell of a lot different than the base ships now.
  • That Baltar torture scene just kept getting weirder and weirder. I have no idea what the frak happened at the end.
  • Um, why is Lucy Lawless now in the bed with Baltar and Caprica-6? Wasn't she just torturing him? Nice bed, btw... Cylon standard-issue, I suppose?

This is all really bad. I just hope it turns around soon, because I'm getting more turned off with each episode. What are the prospects for next week...? Boxing! Yay!

You are breaking my heart, Ron. :'(

As a side note about the image above, no, I didn't make it. I found it on another blog.
