Orbs

Orbs is a game that darco was working on to become more familiar with the PlayStation hardware. The game was called Orbs, and it combines the strategy of chess with the simplicity of marbles; as least that's what the goal was. Chess with marbles. Sounds simple enough.

Current Progress

Project canceled long ago sometime in 1997. The game design was not very well balanced, which makes it not very fun. Live and learn.

Game Rules

The game is played on a 7 by 7 grid, and the goal is to destroy all other players, and be the only player left on the board. There are 8 different color orbs. Here's a list of them:

Dead Orb
(A player orb that has died)
Cancer Orb
(A NON-Player variable that tries to destroy all players)

The game can have up to 4 players, each usually starting in each of the 4 coroners of the 7x7 grid. At each turn, there are three different possible actions that the player can take: MOVE, SPAWN, and ATTACK At each turn, the user is awarded three (3) credits. A MOVE requires 1 credit on the first move, and 2 credits for each additional move in a turn. A SPAWN requires 3 credits. An ATTACK requires 2 credits. When the player MOVES, he/she moves his/her orb to a different spot. When the player SPAWNS, he/she creates a new Orb. When the player ATTACKS, he/she destroys an enemy orb and moves to take it's place. Here is a diagram of the possible actions relative to any particular orb.

Note:THIS DIAGRAM DOES NOT DEPICT THE ACTUAL GAME GRID, BUT RATHER A DIAGRAM OF POSSIBLE ACTIONS FROM ANY RELATIVE POSITION.

If you haven't used up all your credits on your turn, then the credits you didn't use you will be able to use on your next turn. So you can 'Stockpile' credits until you really need them.
